Bolder Advocacy

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 14, 2018  – Following the announcement that the New York Attorney General has sued President Donald Trump and his children, alleging misuse of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Trump Foundation for political purposes, Bolder Advocacy Director Abby Levine released the following statement:

“The serious allegations that there was self-dealing by the Donald J. Trump Foundation and that the Trump campaign was controlling Foundation disbursements during the 2016 presidential campaign should highlight the importance of nonprofit organizations understanding how to further their missions while complying with the law. For all of Donald Trump’s promises to ‘destroy’ the Johnson Amendment, he should appreciate that 501(c)(3) organizations, including private foundations, cannot support or oppose candidates. Bolder Advocacy will be watching this case closely as it addresses critical questions about what is permissible for 501(c)(3) organizations.”
