LOS ANGELES, September 9, 2016 – The Northern and Southern California offices of Bolder Advocacy, a division of Alliance for Justice, this week urged the California Fair Political Practices Commission to extend the public comment period on the state’s Political Reform Act. This landmark ethics law is undergoing revision, and Bolder Advocacy strongly believes that nonprofit organizations in the state should have as much time as possible to provide input. Click here for a copy of Bolder Advocacy’s letter.Bolder Advocacy notes in its letter to the Commission that many organizations with an interest in the ethics law will be unusually busy during the period leading up to the November election. Groups whose mission includes helping underrepresented communities get to the polls will find their time and resources stretched especially thin. Bolder Advocacy believes the first comment period, originally set to end September 30, should be extended until the end of the calendar year to ensure groups get to take part in the vital work of commenting on the law while still supporting their own missions.Bolder Advocacy promotes active engagement in democratic processes and institutions by giving nonprofits and foundations the confidence to advocate effectively and by protecting their right to do so. Our goal is to demystify and decode advocacy by equipping organizations with knowledge and tools. We help organizations fully understand the rules and become assertive in their right to pursue their policy goals.
