Bolder Advocacy promotes active engagement in democratic processes and institutions by giving nonprofits and foundations the confidence to advocate effectively and by protecting their right to do so. Our goal is to demystify and decode advocacy by equipping organizations with knowledge and tools. We help organizations fully understand the rules and become assertive in their right to pursue their policy goals.
Bolder Advocacy is an initiative of the Alliance for Justice — a national association of 130 organizations that are united by a commitment to a fair, just, and free America where everyone has equal access to justice and can fully participate in our democracy. What We Do
Bolder Advocacy advances and protects the role of nonprofits in influencing public policy. We use our expertise to ensure that the legal and political environment in which organizations operate is fair, balanced, and open to hearing them. We lay the groundwork for more nonprofit organizations to advocate effectively on behalf of their communities by:
- tracking and responding to legislation that affects nonprofit advocacy
- fighting for the rights of nonprofits and foundations to conduct advocacy, and
- responding to potential threats to nonprofit advocacy
We also speak out for the sector regularly to communicate our view of the importance of advocacy. Our goal is to build a steady drumbeat and encourage a dialogue within the nonprofit community and beyond about why influencing public policy is an appropriate and vital activity
Bolder Advocacy provides nonprofits with the knowledge they need to become confident
advocates. Our staff attorneys conduct workshops and trainings around the country and one-on-one technical assistance over the phone and email. Our coaching enables individuals and organizations to become better advocates and emboldens them to make their voices heard.
Bolder Advocacy provides nonprofits and foundations with the resources and tools to help them navigate complex advocacy rules and regulations. BolderAdvocacy.org is a place where users can search our robust collection of how-to’s, fact sheets, and reports that help nonprofits stay up-to-date on advocacy and connect with a coach for one-on-one technical assistance and trainings. The site provides examples of how nonprofits have used advocacy to advance their causes, and promotes tools that help nonprofits measure and develop the ability to advocate and evaluate accomplishments.
