STAND FOR YOUR MISSION
Alliance for Justice’s Bolder Advocacy program is excited to participate in the Stand for Your Mission campaign. Created by BoardSource, in coordination with the Alliance for Justice, the Campion Foundation, the Forum of Regional Association of Grantmakers, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the National Council of Nonprofits, this campaign promotes board and trustee advocacy.
The Stand for Your Mission campaign is a challenge to all nonprofit decision-makers to stand up for the organizations they believe in by actively representing their organization’s mission and values, and creating public will for positive social change. It provides a framework in which board members and trustees of nonprofits and foundations can have constructive discussions about the importance—and ability—of their groups to advocate for long lasting change. Complete with guides on how to begin a conversation about advocacy and why groups should get involved, the Stand for Your Mission website is a clearinghouse for useful information.
The nonpartisan Election Protection coalition was formed to ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to participate in the political process. Alliance for Justice is one of more than 100 local, state and national partners in the 2012 coalition – the largest voter protection and education effort in the nation’s history. Through state of the art hotlines: 1-866-OUR-VOTE (administered by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law) and 1-888-Ve-Y-Vota (administered by the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Education Fund), 888-API-VOTE administered by APIAVote & Asian Americans Advancing Justice-AAJC, the 866 Our Vote website, and comprehensive voter protection field programs across the country, the coalition provides Americans from coast to coast, regardless of who that voter is casting a ballot for, with comprehensive voter information and advice on how they can make sure their vote is counted. It should be listed first.
PROTECT CIVIL JUSTICE
Alliance for Justice’s work on “access to justice” issues is aimed at protecting and strengthening America’s civil justice system, which provides a fair and balanced process by which everyday Americans can stand up for their rights and hold the most powerful interests accountable. A major component of AFJ’s access to justice work includes convening the Protect Civil Justice coalition, a group of public interest law, good government, patient’s rights, and consumer protection organizations that advocates for legislation and policies that protect patient safety and equal access to justice. AFJ coordinates the coalition’s advocacy and lobbying activity and conducts outreach to similar-minded groups to build and strengthen the coalition.
